How to Keep Wrinkles off Your Lips

Whether the wrinkles appear on the upper lip or the lips themselves, it isn't a pretty sight. Having wrinkles or other deep-set lines on the lips can be very difficult to get rid of. Even applying your favorite shade of lipstick can be ruined by the appearance of these annoying lines. But by practicing good lip care, you can say goodbye to wrinkles on your lips and hello to a perfectly pleasant pout.

First thing's first: you have to moisturize your lips. Wrinkles can't form when the surface of your lips is soft, plump and fully hydrated. For those with chapped lips, you may need to take extra care, as dry and chapped skin is a welcoming party for the development of fine lines and wrinkles. If you can manage to keep your lips fully moisturized throughout the day, your chances of getting wrinkles will decrease. Sometimes this may require more than just applying your favorite lip balm.

Just like the skin on the rest of the body, exfoliating is also great for the lips. One way to prep the lips and keep them healthy is by gently rubbing your lips with a clean toothbrush. Use circular motions but keep the pressure light. Unlike the rest of the body, the skin on the lips is thin and delicate. Afterwards, rinse your lips with lukewarm water and apply a non-petroleum lip balm.

Super dry and chapped lips can take this home remedy up a notch by mixing your favorite lip-gloss with sugar, baking soda or cornmeal and applying it to your lips with a toothbrush or your fingertip and rubbing the mixture in circular motions. Rinse with lukewarm water afterwards for a pout that is moisturized and free of icky, peeling skin.

In addition to those tips and tricks, it is also important to be mindful of the things you eat. When lips are chapped and dry, contact with certain foods can irritate and upset the skin on the lips, making them worse and ready for wrinkles. When your lips are chapped or peeling, avoid foods that contain pepper, barbeque sauce or mustard. Also stay away from drinking alcohol and beverages like orange juice, since these can aggravate the lips, causing a stinging sensation. Apply a good lip balm or other special moisturizer to speed up the healing process. Once the lips are back in shape, you can go back to eating and drinking whatever you want.

For lip care, men and women alike have to be diligent. By taking care of the lips early on, wrinkles won't stand a chance. Men should carry a small tube of lip balm and apply it often throughout the day or as needed to maintain soft and smooth lips. Medicated lip balms are also ideal for treating lips that are prone to being chapped and dry. Lip balm with SPF is best since the lips can also be prone to sun damage from UV rays. Women have an array of lip care products to choose from when it comes to lip care. When it comes to lipstick, be sure to choose formulas that also moisturize and keep the lips hydrated. Make sure your lips are properly moisturized before applying lipstick so the color goes on smooth. Adding a layer of lip-gloss or petroleum jelly on top of your lip color will also keep your lips in tip-top shape.

By incorporating these steps into your lip care routine, your lips will be prepped and healthy enough to keep away any and all wrinkles and fine lines
